| Having now seen the design I can see that, aside from the loss of yet another building of some antiquity, the problem is very similar to the one faced by Wimbledon Chase with the demolition of the Emma Hamilton pub and construction of flats. It comes across that Merton Park should be grateful for the doubling of the pavement width but hang on the height of the building is also doubling from two to four storey! It will totally dominate the site and cut out a huge swathe of southern sun to the buildings on the opposite side of the road. Yes it is a monstrosity totally devoid of any empathy for the street scene and lacking in any care for the effect on others; pretty much par for the course when maximising profit from a development. |
